What to do when you can't sleep - Make your first softie!

Hi! My name is Yuka. I was just born today, so that means that today is my birthday and that I can have aaaaaany cake I like. I want a cake with lots of cream and strawberries.

My mummy couldn't sleep last night. I think it's because she made herself a promise that she wouldn't buy aaaaaany more fabric until she started making some things and today was a making day and she was excited. Instead of sleeping, she made me.

Mummy said that I came out a bit wonky (thanks mum!) and that my head isn't smooth like it should be even though she sewed me really carefully. She thinks it's because my hair is too thick. She said that all new mummies make mistakes, but that's OK, she still loves me anyway. She also said that before I got filled out, not so much collar was showing. Now too much collar is showing and a good girl shouldn't show so much collar.

Did you know that I'm almost all kimono! Even my hair and my underwear is kimono. My face isn't kimono though, that would just be silly. Mummy wants to make me some sisters and maybe even some brothers. I don't want any brothers though, because boys are smelly and noisy and don't like kimono with pretty pink flowers. I like kimono with pretty pink flowers, do you? Mummy said that I shouldn't worry, because if I get a brother, he won't be smelly or noisy and he'll like pretty blue boy kimonos.

Daddy thinks mummy is silly because even though it was four o'clock in the morning and mummy hadn't gone to bed yet, and she was reeeeeealy tired, she couldn't come to bed because I only had one eye then, and having one eye is not fun because then you can't watch 3D movies. I don't know what 3D movies are, but I'm happy that mummy gave me two eyes.

Mummy said I have to go now, she said it's time for a nap.

Melanie,
Oh My Gosh! Thank you for having your class send all those post cards to Lucas! They really made this day and mine. Your students have such amazing hand writing. Lucas and his friend are making postcards with Oregon and Washington landmarks.....they are so excited to write to your students. Thank you so much.
