Pinteresting My New Home - The Little One's Room

After the years of talking about it and eleven months of inspecting properties, it's done, we finally own our very own home.  We took possession of it yesterday.

It's funny, the day we put an offer on this house last year (but missed out), we went for more of a drive through the township.  Then we came across a street that was slightly elevated and had views of four of the glasshouse mountains around it.  I said to The Man, "Actually, I want to live on this street."  And that very street is where we will now live.

Over nearly a year, the more we looked at places the clearer idea I got of what I really wanted.  I wanted views from our garden and now these are the views we have.  Hardwood floors were high up on the wish list and I just love the ones we have.  Room for a studio that is separated from the house was a must as was plenty of space for the little one to run and to let us keep a dog and chickens.  With over a quarter of an acre there's no problem there.

Another factor that was important to us, and I think essential to helping towards a simpler life, was not having a massive mortgage.  We couldn't quite see the point in moving to a rural town for a calmer life style but then putting the stress of a crippling debt on our shoulders.  And so we compromised on some things.  The house isn't large, it's a bit old and I'm affectionately calling it our "little fibro shack".  It also needs a lot of cosmetic work, but that's one compromise I'm happy about.  After renting all my adult life, I can't wait to start to make my mark and to really make our new home feel like ours.

The first room to tackle is the Little One's.   I want to make it as inviting as possible for her from the day we move in.  She's requested a blue room as she tells us at every chance "I like blue."  I brought home paint swatches last night, all varying shades of sky blue, hoping she might help me choose and she declared "I like aaaaaaall the blues."

I've been stalking Pinterest for a while now (to the point that I'm afraid The Man is going to hold a Pinterest intervention soon) and these are some of the images inspiring me for her room...

This weekend will be our first chance to really get started on the house.  Let the painting begin!

Wow, you've got more patience than I do. We had a moving van waiting in the driveway at the moment we settled. It's been almost four years now and we have only painted one room though. Congratulations!

Mel, it sounds delightful! Pinterest is fantastic, I refuse to listen when my kids carry on about how many pins I have! I find it invaluable for my teaching, and it is a great way to collect ideas for inspiration. Can't wait to see the results of all these lovely pinsperations! I'm sure they will find their way onto a few pin boards themselves!
Have fun- which I'm sure you will, and I am a slight shade of green at the thought of having room in the back yard for a studio and a view!!!! Lucky girl, you deserve it after those struggles you faced not so long ago!

“I can't wait to start to make my mark and to really make our new home feel like ours.” – Congrats on the new house! While reading your post, I realize how much time and effort you gave just to have your own space. Now, you can definitely call this place your home. Gone are the days when you were walking on water on your rented space.

Hurray! Congratulations on your new home! It’s an excellent find, indeed! Taking the quest for a new home isn’t an easy task. It compels a lot of searching and comparison, and finally spotting the right one is such a fulfilling feeling! =)

The long wait is over! :) Nothing beats the feeling of purchasing your own home after months of searching for one. It’s good to know that you’ve been able to find a mortgage deal that best suits your needs. Likewise, I also admire you for not pushing yourself to find an extravagant house and just focusing on what you could afford.
