I'm Home and I'm Ready to Decorate!

Well, I made it. I survived the move. The last month has flown by and it has just sunk in that we're here, really here and here to stay. Yesterday we picked up our new car and the internet was finally connected. Fingers (and toes and anything else that can be) crossed, DH may have a job to start next week.

For the past few weeks, I've been in a non-committal daze. I had one day of tears, wishing we hadn't come back (it's quite a shock how expensive everything is here), but mostly it has felt like we were here on a holiday and I'd be back on a plane soon. Yesterday, it all started to feel real and now I'm ready to nest!

The new place, a townhouse (photos to come soon) has been filled with a mish-mash of a few things we had stored (we sold most things before we left), things borrowed from my parents (they had things stored with us while they are living overseas), pieces from secondhand stores and some new. Something old, something new, something borrowed and certainly a few things blue. It's quite a challenge making it all work together.

The living room was today's challenge. We bought a funky rug to cover the old carpet and now I'm trying to work everything around it. I've been looking at how to make my own sofa cover, as the upholstery is looking rather tattered. Next to the entertainment unit, we have two large spaces spare. Trying to keep the apartment baby-friendly, I'm umm-ing and ahh-ing between artwork on the walls and wall decals. I don't know anyone that has used them before, so am a little apprehensive. Here are some of the ones I like....

Forest, from artwallproject
Wildflower, from MarkJamesDesign
Bare Tree, from circlelinestudio
Dandelions, from janeymacpress

Don't think I haven't also been considering the baby's room.....

good choices! lots of them are very cute. wall decals are pretty neat - and easy to apply. I can do 10 inch ones (my cutter isn't very big). Just so you know...

Welcome back! Thank goodness you're all re-connected. There's nothing worse that no internet.
Looking forward to seeing some decorating pics!

Nice to see you've arrived safe and sound. It sounds quite literally like a culture shock. Hope you soon get used to it and don't regret the move to much or for too long!
I love that tree decal with the blue birds- blue birds of happiness!
Decorating a nursary is so much fun. Just make sure you include a comfortable chair with arms that accomodate feeding posture.

The nature and birdies style is really hot right now. Here are some more baby owl and bird nursery pictures that have been entered in the nursery picture contest on my site.

Welcome back Melanie. I have been missing you! Glad to hear you are home and settling in nicely. I travelled and lived overseas on and off for 8 years and coming home (over 10 years ago now) was quite a shock to the system.
At least you have some lovely nesting to do mow to keep you entertained. I love the red wall with the decal, though I can't offer any advice as I have never used them myself. They certainly look effective.
Good luck with the nursery - so many beautiful things to choose from.

Welcome home!!!!! I know, I'm so behind on all my internets at the moment :P Struggling a bit to keep up with the online world at present. But so glad to hear you are back and settled in, and really really excited to see your name on the Brown Owls mailout, which means I will hopefully meet you this Sunday. Yay!!!!!
Cheers, Bec XX

So glad to see you back, Melanie! Hope you are feeling great and your townhouse is looking fab! I have used uppercase living products to decorate my kitchen and put a quote on my wall. I love the vinyl because it looks like I painted it but I know I can take it down and update my look anytime. :) I know there are a TON of companies doing vinyl now just wanted to let you know what I used. Have a happy day!
