One very exciting thing about moving back to Australia is that I have an oven again! I have said on this blog before that I don't cook, well that wasn't the total truth. I don't really cook meals, but I love to bake. Nothing terribly difficult mind you, certainly nothing up to La Fuji Mama's level, but I love to make cakes, biscuits, slices and the occasional pavlova.
My oven and I are going to take a little time getting to know each other, but it will be fun, like getting to know a new friend. Today's menu was vanilla cupcakes. Yummy, if I might say so myself, maybe a little too sweet (wow, I didn't think I'd ever say that) and didn't quite brown enough on the top, but overall, a decent attempt.
As DH, a good friend and I tried them, this was our view.
The living room feature will be our new rug with some artwork on the walls, pillows and chair covers to tie it all in together. Behind that, you can see my favourite feature of our new place - the gorgeous bush reserve view. It's teaming with bird life. As our bedroom is directly above the living room, we have the same view and the birds singing every morning is magical to wake up to.
I think I will be able to make this a lovely new home and build a lovely new life.

What a beautiful view! It looks like a very good start to your new home and life. :-)
I love that rug. The view is gorgeous too.
Okaerinasai Melanie san!
Welcome back to Aussie land. :D
Your place looks fantastic! Can't wait for more updates on your new home (and baby!). How long more do you have to go for bubba? I just gave birth on 15April. :D
Labour was less than 1 hour and I popped 20 minutes upon arriving at the hospital!
Wow! Gorgeous rug!
beautiful!
Gorgeous view melanie. There is nothing like waking up to bush noises. Love the rug. What a great red.
Birds and bushland-so uplifting-glad you are settling and those cupcakes look yum:)
Yes, I think it will make a beautiful home. And there is nothing like birdsong to fill the mornings. Lovely.
3 things...1) Those cupcakes look so yummy! Since my no-sugar period has been up, I've had one long and constant sweet tooth. B) I love the rug! I want the rug! III) I imagine it would be lovely to sit out there and drink your morning coffee (or tea) before starting your day.
what a great view.... and the sliding doors almost have a Japanese look to them... the best of both worlds!
I would really miss having an oven...I love to bake as well as cook. But, baking is still my fav too. I thought about you saying you had no oven while baking fresh bread yesterday and cringed at the thought of having to eat store bought.... ick....haven't done that since I learned how great my own bread tastes and how I can control what goes into it.... yum....
have fun decorating your new place...I am a bit envious of looking out over a forest reserve.... how great would that be.....
Welome back to the blogging world! So happy the move went well. Wow what a change for you!
I remember that delicious moment of returning to a kitchen with an oven. I think I cooked everything I possibly could in it for the first few months I was home. It was such a novelty after so long without one. WELCOME HOME, by the way! Those moments of missing Japan will hit you when you least expect but they will subside and you'll feel more like Aus is your home again eventually. Though I must say you will probably always have Japan in your heart :)
I wish I'd been there for cupcakes and tea. They look great.
It sounds like you are getting settled in already. Wonderful.
Aaaaw, you are so sweet! But I don't know what you're talking about--those cupcakes look fab!
I love the rug! Looks like you are settling right in. :-)
cupcakes and cockatoos, perfect!
