While the Cat's Away....

.... the mouse has to look after herself.

Wayne flew out early this morning for two weeks in Australia.

It's funny how at times like this, the roles you've both taken in a relationship become more obvious.

For years before Wayne and I met, I was single and very independent. I prided myself on being self-sufficient.

Now, as Wayne was preparing to leave, he worried that I wouldn't feed myself properly, and like a good caring wife, he cooked up a number of meals for me to put in the freezer. I was concerned about him taking his first international flight on his own and ran him through the change of terminals and things to do in Singapore airport. I went and bought his train ticket to the airport for him and checked that he'd packed everything he needed. I got teary saying goodbye at the station.

These things, we could both do all on our own, but it is nice to know that someone cares enough to worry.

I know what you mean. We take our roles when we have a partnership - for me, I'm the organiser and the cook (and I buy his train tickets for him and make sure he gets on the right train to Bendigo and get him a sandwich if there's no dining car) and he's the reality check, gardener and bottle washer. I don't know how we did things before we met each other!

I hope you enjoy your alone time. It will be sweet when he comes back though.

It's so funny to hear other people talk about the role split that happens when you are in a partnership with someone. I'm in charge of interior decorating, travel logistics and entertaining while Ms L deals with service people, does heavy lifting and takes charge of touring when we are on holidays.

Enjoy your alone time. I always find it takes me a couple of days to get in to the rhythm of it.

Think of all the projects you can finish, dream about or just admire. My husband constantly travels and is away right now. It doesn't get any easier you just have coping strategies to deal with it.......and its harder when you are not in your home country. But enjoy it and do some different things.......even if its taking a different bus or train to explore somewhere new.....like a tourist

Mr HB travels a month or two a year on business, but has never left any frozen meals! I hope you enjoy yours and that the time goes quickly.

Ahhh...that is sweet.
Have been reading your blog off and on for awhile.
Wish I'd have read it while we lived in Tokyo!2005-2007.
Now that we are back I actually miss apartment living and not having to mow or weed, or pay for repairs.
But your previous post was sweet. Wanting a baby a house and dog.
We sold our house in 2002 and went to Singapore and left our dog with our adult daughter, and our posessions went into longterm storage, so I know the feeling of just wanting your own place. To paint the walls, or hang pictures.5 years of apartment living felt so long while we were doing it. Now looking back, doesn't feel so long!
Have fun while your husband is away.

My cat is a fisherboy this week and yes, being looked after is one of the really comforting things about marriage/a relationship.
