Holiday Reading

I'm taking a couple of days off, or two half days truth be told, but I'm really looking forward to some family time and internet-free time.

While the the little one sleeps, it's a perfect time to sit down with a glass of wine and some inspiring reading.

Included in the book bag is Peppermint, The Handmade Marketplace and Bespoke.

See you in a couple of days!

Eye Spy.... Something I've just finished reading

I'm currently blessed (in one way) with an abundance of printed material reading time. Being between the move from Japan and the arrival of our little girl, I have a few months to fill with waiting for things to arrive from Japan, unpacking, setting up home and preparing for my new role as a mum. While there are a million things I'd like to get done, my physio has limited my sitting to 15 minute blocks (so little internet time), and I can't be on my feet for too long either. That leaves lying down. I'm trying to see it as a blessing, knowing that soon, I won't have that rest and reading time available.

Most of my reading of late has been filled with back issues of Mixtape that I bought from the fabulous Justine at the Stitches and Craft Show, and basically any pregnancy and parenting publication I can get my hands on.

I did make a trip to the local library recently and oh, what a joy that was. A room, a large room, a large room filled with books all in English! I was like a kid in a candy shop, not sure where to start, in the end overwhelmed by choice so I just grabbed something from one of the recently returned trolleys. A good grab it was, Tamara Walks on Water by Shifra Horn.

This book is set in Israel and bases its story around the lives of a Russian orphan immigrant and the granddaughter she raises. Food plays a strong, rich part in the book and prejudice of religion are always close by. It wasn't a book that I couldn't bare to put down, but rather, each chapter an entertaining read by themselves.

Thanks to A Glass Half Full for this week's theme and to Bug and Pop for hosting. I'm now off to gather a list of recommended reads for my next trip to the library. Nine weeks of free reading time left!

This is... what I'm currently reading

This is also me a day late. And actually, this is what I was reading until this morning, when I finished it.

I bought it when I was in Kyoto last week. As the book was set in Kyoto and I had the Geisha makeover planned, it seemed like the perfect book. I found it really interesting. Unlike Memoirs of a Geisha, which I also love, Geisha of Gion is an autobiography and gives a lot more detailed insight into the life of a geisha.

While I've been lurking on a few blogs in the last couple of days, I've been strangely relieved that other people's book reading time has been reduced as they read more blogs. There is so much interesting reading on this big wide web now, that my bookshelf has been somewhat neglected. I know I only got through this last book so quickly because I was internet-less for a few days.

Thank you so much also to everyone for their kind words on my last post. I had a couple of days (helped by a perfectly timed long weekend) of hiding under a blanket, watching dvds, eating chocolate and getting lots of cuddles from my dh. I'm ready to happily face the world again and I hope to mend my relationship with my sister.

Thank you to Miss K for this week's theme to Angela, the fabulous hostess of This is...
