My Creative Space - Kokeshi Brooches

I'm working on Kokeshi brooches today.

Firstly, I paint their hair and faces....

Then their "kimonos" are prepared, all tiny pieces of fabric taken from vintage kimonos.

I even love the little scraps that come from trimming the kimonos.

I've been saving them and popping them in clear Christmas baubles, an idea I nicked from Kootoyoo a while back.

Fashion Dolls

My Kokeshi Dolls have gone all model-y this month, striking a pose for the camera.  They're in this month's (about to hit the stands) Homespun Magazine.

A few of their younger sisters, with little pigtails are about to make their debut next week at the Sydney Life Instyle show too.

I hope all this fame doesn't go to their heads.

My Creative Space

Brooches, brooches, working on and with lots of brooches....

...painting faces...

... and trying to find the right prop to photograph them with...

My Creative Space

The last couple of days have been about painting faces and dressing dolls.

Today I'll be putting their brooch backs on, ready for their first day out at the Eco Market on Saturday.

After I've been playing with them, I think I prefer the simplicity of the sleeveless ones, they are far more like actual kokeshi after all. I had a little bamboo left so have made a few little mother and daughter ones as well.
