The Non-Christmas Tree Christmas Tree

We don't have a Christmas tree yet. I can't bring myself to buy a big plastic one, but yet don't have the commitment to look after a live one this year. I do really want something, rental, Aussie summer and crawling-baby friendly to hang decorations though. If only I had a little more time, I'd love to make one like this...

Do you have any interesting decorating ideas this season?

This is such a neat tree! The 1st time we lived in Japan, I picked up a copy of the Martha Stewart Living Japan magazine that had an idea for decorating a tree with origami cranes and fans in it. The tree was stunning, and I keep meaning to recreate it every year. One of these years it will happen...

Maybe you have a tree in the yard that you could put some tinsel on? Or a pot plant on the balcony could be nice. My friend told me last night that they had artificial trees for $11 in Coles. I know it sounds tacky, but just for this year, with some lights and origami decorations? It could be nice for baby's first Christmas!

I'm not sure you could decorate it with many other Christmas decorations (and I'm sure you've probably already seen it) but I am so wishing I had the time this year to make this Christmas tree:http://www.craftpassion.com/2009/12/sewing-tutorial-kanzashi-christmas-tree.html

I love that tree. I long to do something like that but my daughter is quite a traditionalist, no christmas cacti or sticks or creative non tree options around my place!
