Goodness Gocco!

I first used a Gocco many years ago. It was my first year in Japan, and my first year to create and send nengajyo. My friend brought her little magical screen printer to my apartment and taught me how to use it. From memory, it was about to be Year of the Dragon and I created a design with a seahorse (they are called sea dragons in Japanese).

Recently, I've been wanting to play with some printed designs again. My friend has lent me hers that she doesn't use anymore. I plan on playing with it for a while and then decide if I want to get one of my own to take back home next year.

Now, here's the rub. I went to my local stationery store and there are suddenly no Gocco supplies. The shelf that was previously filled with Gocco goodness was now empty. So empty in fact that I suspect the removal of the items was very recent. Unless you count the "Gocco Jet" which you use with your computer. Gone were the bulbs, the screens and the ink. All gone. Sadly, it appears that Gocco may be on it's way out.

There certainly are still places to get the materials, but they are harder to come by. If you're a Gocco owner or a Gocco fan, I would suggest you might want to look at stocking up now. Goodness over on Etsy is a lovely friendly supplier who can help you out.

I love this Gocco print by Inkdesigner who also sells some gorgeous Gooco prints in his Etsy shop.

Oh no! This is not good news at all! I bought my Gocco from Leslie earlier this year and haven't really used it as much as I would have liked. Thanks for the warning-how sad if gocco is no longer.

Unfortunately Gocco has gone the way of the dinosaur, they have stopped making them. So track down whatever you can and stash it away. I Googled Gocco to find out exactly what was happening after I read on a blog somewhere that they were finishing up. Millie

I too read a couple of months ago that Gocco have stopped making them. It is a such a shame though. I think many people will be disappointed with that.

Nehoc Australia still has plenty of Stock for the moment... but it is sad that they aren't going to make them, I'd love one.

Love that print. I'd love a Gocco. We used to use my friends in high school and make silly party invites. Such fun! Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks so much for the etsy gocco print seller link. Hope all goes well in Tokyo with your specialist and that your last few months in nihon are healthy and happy ones (despite the cold descending on you).
