Manhole Covers

Manhole covers from Matsumoto.  All featuring the gorgeous temari balls the city is famous for.

I love Japanese manhole covers! I take pictures of them whenever I travel. There is a full-colour book of them published in English that I saw once...

Oh I remember those from my visit to Matsumoto but didn't know what they represented! It's good to now and the temari balls are really beautiful!

Lovely! I had a great time in Fukuoka doing rubbings of the covers, none as interesting as that though. I think my son's in-laws thought I was nuts.

Yes yes yes!
When I look at the old school architecture I'm taken back to a time when functionality AND beauty were both as important as each other. And it rocks! So great to see these manhole covers amongst the grey concrete :)
